Elizabeth “Helvi” Brauer enjoys contributing to the Minnesota and North American Nordic community through participation in various Nordic-American organizations. These have included serving on the FinnSource (Finlandia Foundation, Twin Cities Chapter) executive board, membership in Kalevan Naiset of Duluth, membership in and volunteer for the Finnish-American Cultural Association of MN, member and program contributor at Norway House, past member of ASI's Cloudberries Swedish Women's Choir, and a 612 Sauna Society cooperative founding member and Chief Sustenance Officer. Helvi has also taught at Suomi-Koulu (Finnish Language School of MN and the Finnish American Folk School in Hancock, MI. She is a fluent speaker and teacher of Finnish language and culture, is proficient in Swedish, has dabbled in the study of Norwegian, and has even studied some Northern Sámi while at the University of Oulu.

Elizabeth values connecting individuals and communities to bring people together in order to make grand ideas into reality in the service of the public good.

Julia Brauer CHIEF OF DESIGN/MOTHER OF ELIZABETH enjoys sewing and doing other creative design products for Luumu that are inspired by the Finnish aesthetic. She is an avid quilter and crafter and lives in Cottage Grove, MN.
